What does community mean to me?
This is the question we will be exploring in our next community conversation.
I was in my 20s when I became aware of how important community is for me. Since then I have tried many things in the name of community ….
- trying to create community and ownership in Meeting Magic
- community projects in my client organisations
- joining business and organisational development networks
- personal development communities
- community projects in my local town where I live
- communities of interest in music, yoga. Qigong, art
All these experiences have raised different learnings and questions for me about
Community …
- the importance of the invitation – what draws people in to a community?
- the tension between collective and individual needs – how willing are we to learn about other people’s needs and accommodate them?
- community development takes time – how much time are we willing to invest in this?
- the container for community is relational – what is our appetite to do relational work and how is this facilitated in the absence of a leader skilled in this work?
- belonging – the beauty of feeling seen and accepted for who I am. It’s such a fundamental human need – how many people really experience this in their lives? In their work?
I look forward to the, always rich, conversations we will have together on 10th April.
